Default MacroVision protection in det 40

"While I don't use my TV-Out on any of my video cards. Some rely on it for watching DVD's, etc... Especially in College Dorms. Anyways. Russell Morton shot off an email to us informing us that with all the hoopla regarding the benchmarks and such, Nvidia forgot to inform the people that these drivers Enable MacroVision Protection. This is what Mr. Morton had to share:

One of the primary reasons I forked out the cash for a Nvidia Ti4600 was to use their "NVIEW" for tv-out and in, and they slip MacroVision Protection in? Well, back to the 30.xx series for me..."

Try TV-tool http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm

maybe it can fix this

"Macro-Off: Turns off the Macrovision signal. This signal is used to prevent the recording of DVDs to Video. Often Macrovision causes distortions in the video signal even without recording. In these cases it is recommended to enable this option. "

I already moved back to 30.82 and it works!!

Hopefully will Nvidia see their "mistake" and correct this in the future.

The WHQL 30.82 have protection in them too. One of my PC's is only connected to a TV, no monitor, as that's my DVD player. With 30.82, when I fired up a DVD using PowerDVD XP I got a message along the lines of "tough, monitor output only for DVD's" and that was it, no playback at all.

30.30's are fine

This is utter crap imo.. WTH are they doing ?

I can't go along with this in either principle or practice.
They should have at least documented it somewhere. This kinda stuff makes for ex-customers.

Well I see it as almost the functional equivalent of the D3D Aniso deal. Nvidia disables in drivers, 3rd party app gives the goods.

That's how it is now. Nvidia enables Macrovision in drivers, 3rd party app allows for the goods.

Guys, don't be to hasty now.. You can easily fix this. I just sent an email to JonathanM regarding his update on this topic. Here's what I said.

Hi there,

I had the same prob. Luckily I found it is easily fixed within the nview controls.

Using the new drivers, after enabling TV-Out, click on the "Overlay Controls" option on the side panel.

Here you can configure the Full screen video mirroring controls. To simply make the video play on your secondary screen (e.g. your television) select "Secondary Display" from the drop down menu underneath "Full Screen Device."

Click apply and the video (avi, mpeg etc.) should all play, regardless of whether the image is minimised or maximised on your primary display! No need for 3rd party junk, it's all there!

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Kola

Hope you all work it out. Good luck.

Kola's right, it does work. Cool

Although I did experience severe unstability while having the system setup in this manner, although it may be related to a couple other things i was doing. I though win xp was hosed as i was frequently getting errors from generated from my gf4.

Give this a shot if you're willing.

I've not tried it, but I bet that doesn't work when the TV is the only/primary display
