Default SuSE 8.2 and GeForce FX 5600 GO

Hi people !!!

I have a problem with NVidia GeForce FX 5600 GO card in Linux (SuSE 8.2). I have laptop Sony GRT715M with this card. I tried use new NVidia driver, but it's doesn't work... If I'm doing this from X (using SaX2) and after tring to test new settings, I get black screen and 100 % of CPU usage (2.8 GHz) and even cannot kill X or reboot... :-(((( Someone have any idea about ?

hello!

Thats because the FX 5600 Go is not supported by the newest linux driver. you have to wait till they release a driver working with FX 5600 Go.

I'm also waiting for the release of the new driver and have to use the vesafb driver at the moment.

HEY NVIDIA FOLKS, PLEASE RELEASE THE NEW LINUX DRIVER SOON! :-)

Me too ...
But as i have seen on the net, the open source 'nv' driver from the latest XFree86 development snapshot (4.3.99.7) should provide support. Not as good as the binary, but much better than vesa, as they wrote.

Canīt believe, that the open source driver is in advance to nvidias binary one ...

Default Re: SuSE 8.2 and GeForce FX 5600 GO

Hi all!

I am new to Linux but finally I have a working config for my Sony GRT Notebook with Geforce FX Go 5600. I use the driver version 1.0-4496. Sax2 did not solve my problem so I had to edit its XF86Config as follows:
1. In Section "Device" you have to make sure that Driver is set to "nvidia"
2. In Section "Device" add Option "NvAGP" "1"
3. In Section "Screen" -> SubSection "Display" -> Modes you have to replace the "default" by your screen resolution, mine is "1024x768". Otherwise X cannot initialize the screen.

Please let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Anguel

I've got problems getting GeForce FX 5650 Go to work under Linux. People are say that the 5650 is compatible with 5600.
Could you please post your XF86Config files (I am not getting away with just setting NvAgp to 1, even though this caused more change than any other parameter change has done before).
