Default nvidia drivers 1.0 3123 doesn't work

Hi !

I have installed a GForce4 TI4200.

I use SuSE 8.1.

I download the latest kernel- und das glx-rpm from nvidia

and install it without any problems.

Because i build my own kernel from linux sources 2.4.19, i compile

and load NVIDIA-kernelmodule without any problems:

Nov 5 06:26:36 PCNEU kernel: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVdriver Kernel Module 1.0-3123 Tue Aug 27 15:56:48 PDT 2002

But i can't start x11:

(II) LoadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a

(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:

I get the following messages in /var/log/messages:

Nov 5 06:29:31 PCNEU kernel: nvidia: couldn't map registers!
Nov 5 06:29:31 PCNEU kernel: NV0: nv_map_device failed

Any ideas ?

After you've modprobe'ed NVdriver, does lsmod show it?

If you run startx right after you've loaded NVdriver, does it work then?

Can you post your XF86Config(-4, if it exists) file, along with /etc/modules.conf?

How much memory do you have in your system? Do you have a TV card? Are you running netfilter?

I solve my problem:

After changing Framebuffer Vesa to Framebuffer Riva in the kernel

and change vga=791 to vga=normal in /etc/lilo.conf

startup x11 with nvidia drivers works.
