Gainward GeForce 8600 GT (256 mb, silent)
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" (alpha). I have "desktop effects" enabled, via Compiz. The problem I have is that I get pink shadows on my windows and menus. Sometimes the shadows are yellow. But they should be black. Screenshots: * http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12166402/compiz.png * http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12166430/compiz2.png In the settings for the "Window Decorator" plugin in CompizConfig Settings Manager, the color is #000000, not pink. Yet, for some reason the shadows appear pink. If I try to change some settings such as Shadow Radius, or color opacity, it often results in that the shadows just disappear. I've read that there are also many other people who have had this or similar problems... Code:

Anyone know why this happens?
Bug in Compiz? Bug in Nvidia graphics device drivers? Quote:

Before someone jumps in and says this is a compiz bug let me say that this only happens on GeForce 8xxx cards so unless you can point to a specific thing compiz is doing wrong and provide a fix this is a driver problem.

Same problem here with a GeForce 8400. Sometimes the shadows completely disappear and the gtk-window-decorator draws the borders badly.

Yeah, I think this problem only happens to Nvidia users, not ATI and Intel users.
It also seem to happen on all GeForce 8-series cards. Also reports of problems on GeForce 7-series cards. It happens on 169.x drivers, but I think others too like 100.x... |

It seems similar to the problems a few of us reported here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=104822
Hopefully the nvidia folks will get on this. |

HI ALL!
Just to say that after upgrading the acer_acpi module in my ArchLinux box, the pink shadow issue I had seems solved. To anyone who has the problem, try to see if you have the module acer_acpi installed in your system and, if it's, remove it with rmmod then restart X. Try it! Petz |
