Interesting. I was just playing around with the Mandriva 2008.1 rc2 live CD and all shadows and gtk-window-decorator boarders are drawn correctly as they should be with the 169.12 driver. So maybe it's not a Nvidia bug?

The bug is in nvidia-utils. To get rid of the pink shadows remove the NVidia driver and reinstall the Official driver from the NVidia website. There are more details here:

I confirm that the bug is associated to nvidia : if you turn the actual link /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so (that normally point toward libnvidia-wfb.so.169.12) to the /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core (the Xorg version of the fwb module), the issue is fixed...

try this after cleaning the actual libwfb.so symlink:
Code:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so
I'm under Hardy Heron (Ubuntu) so no need to rebuild nvidia driver from scratch...

Enjoy...

Yes, that works for me too. I'm not sure what the problem is actually, whether it's a packaging problem or some bug in the libwfb module.

Never had pink shadows, but it fixes no shadows in compiz-fusion and the failure of gtk-window-decorator to draw title bars on unfocused windows.

Thanks for the clue.

Apart from the fact that VLC now crashes every 20 minutes during my wife's DVDs. Back to no shadow and emerald (and stability, I hope).

Thanks for this. It worked on my new hardy laptop.
