Default Leave Afghanistan?

Simple really, should we (USA & UK) leave Afghanistan?

Clearly we're in a conflict we can never win, now they're killing our troops from within, we train em then they kill us the way we taught em.

There's no Taliban, it's the whole country that's against us, Taliban is bs, made up by the politicians to fool us.

The people of Afghanistan don't want to be westernised & why should they?

How many more children need to be sent home in body bags or sent home with arms & legs blown off before the world wakes up?

Don't get me wrong i support all troops doing there jobs but they never asked to be sent to fight a war against an enemy they can't even take on in a stand up fight.

To say we are there to stop terror attacks on our own shores is bollox, what about Iran & Somalia to name but two places where terrorists can live & train freely?

Obviously my opinion is to leave, what's yours?

My opinion is that you're a hippie and people like you say the exact same things about many wars that have been won. Just get back to your bong and leave the political discussion to the sober people.

I think Alpha is under the impression that we can still win this one. I realised a good while ago we have no chance. Bring em home.

We have not got a chance in Afghanistan, whilst the troops on the ground can go out time and time again and kill the Taliban fighters, there will always be more of them. It's not about just fighting, it's fighting the mindset of a country that does not want to change, it cannot be done.

Realising that you are fighting a war you cannot win does not make you soft liberal.

AlphaWolf_HK and Nu3gaWhat, sound like the sort of people who would have had every last US soldier massacred in Vietnam before realising the war might not be having the effect they were hoping for.

Vamp is right, you cannot fight a mindset.

Great, not this Vietnam-era idealism again. Don't you people get it? We are kicking THEIR asses. From their point of view, it's a holy war. Fine, our men and women are great at making an appointment for you to meet God. From our point of view, this is a war of attrition...kill as many of the bastards as we can. We're doing a good job, almost as good as they are doing at meeting God and going straight to hell. MOAR WAR!!!

How so? You've been listening to different reports to me, because from what I hear things are the same or worse than they were before we went in. And this isn't liberals saying this, this is from the civilians living in Afghanistan, troops on the ground, in fact anyone who isn't living in cloud koo koo land or trying to push propaganda. By calling for more war you're just calling for more death of your fellow people. While I feel bad for the Afghans living through this, at some point we're gonna have to just admit this is a battle that can't be won and come home.

EDIT: Not to mention the fact that we simply can't afford to continue all the spending. Our countries are broke as ****.

This is untrue, as seen by the vast swaths of people who risked betting hit by suicide bombers in order to vote. In the US, we will not risk getting hit by raindrops.

The people want their democracy. We just have to show them they will not be abandoned.

As many as it takes. Using this logic, we should disband the police, or at least not send them out to fight criminals. How many dead cops will it take before people wake up and realize they will never make crime go away?

Actually, they did. Just like the police, the military volunteered to do a dangerous job. The military members all volunteered to go and fight wherever the government decided they should. This is an agreement made by all military members.

You are in the wrong decade, we do not have a draft.

Do you have any credible evidence that attacks on US soil were performed by people trained in Iran or Somalia? We DO have it for Afghanistan. AQ was about 50% of the Afghan military, OBL lived in Afghanistan and took credit for the tower attacks. Even our biggest detractors around the world had no problem with us invading Afghanistan.
