Its not very noticable in TF2, mainly in the freeze screens when you die if there is alot of motion there.
although looking around quickly I can see it on this CRT at home atleast. (in TF2 that is)
I sorta expect the motionblur is the same in TF2, portal and EP2, dunno for sure tho.

Well, I just tried changing the language in Steam and alt-tabbing out of the game and I still get crap performance when the flashlight is on (with shadows set to high).

It runs fine with shadows on medium though. Doesn't look much different to be honest. I'd notice 20fps during a fire fight a lot more than I notice the lack of projected shadows from my flashlight. Either this is a bug or they just used an extremely inefficient shadowing method. Lots of games have done things like this and none of them performed this bad.

Other than the flashlight thing though, it seems awesome. The very beginning part with the train bridge is freaking awesome. The artistry is just phenomenal... of course thats always been a huge part of these games. I don't know how "high tech" this engine is compared to others, but Source games (specifically ones in the Half-Life universe) just have an extremely realistic and unique feel to them.

Hopefully I'll have time to really put some time into Ep2 tomorrow.

Been playing for the last 2 hours, great game. I don't have the shadow problem though, not sure what is causing that.

So far it has been playing great I get around 250FPS but most of the time it's around 150FPS,drops to around 100FPS in heavy action ,I can't tell the flashlight does anything to performance.it looks good at 1920x1200 with 16XAA and 16x aniso.with everything else set to high.

It's pretty bland looking to me. Hopefully there will be a Cinematic mod for it soon

i got the orange box yesterday. 29 bucks

CC price of 37 - 10 gift card + tax

so far the only thing i played was portal.

New source engine seems a lot more responsive, no more long loading times. Sound seems fixed as well. One thing i hated the most in HL2 that quite often sound would stutter.

I really hope they upgrade all older games with this new updated engine.
