Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of games coming out recently aren't as well optimized as they could be? Next-gen graphics cards have helped to hide it by providing super fast performance, but games like this seem to be way under-par performance wise for what they could be with some more work

Mate, you have to read reviews. You can't buy everything and regret it later. And certainly 5 minute demos like this game's don't really show whether the game is good or not... Basically I look at the average ranking of a game and read 4-5 reviews, then I make up my mind.

Midway-done games rushed this game like they did Unreal Tournament 3 and other game they produce. One of the developers spoke out about it and was fired.

Im semi-interested in this game - it can be had very cheap nowdays. Been thinking of ordering it together with Lost Planet.

Is it as bad as Turok or what?

Lost Planet is a lot better than either Turok or Area 51 in terms of gameplay and graphics.
