Default Xv/x11 Gamma Control

Bit of a noob question, sorry

I need to adjust the brightness or gamma for the renderer xine refers to as Xv (x11 in mplayer), I'm not sure if this is an nvidia related question, but I could only use it after I installed the nvidia drivers on my machine, so I'm guessing that it is

thx in advance

In the xine configuration stuff there's an option for adjusting some stuff (XV color key and other things..).
