after long time ago... I continue without the possibility to adjust the brilliance of my panel in my Sony Vaio FZ-21S.
Any change?

Thanks at all.

Try with the latest beta. Doesn't work? File a bug report, see the sticky posts.

No, the bug for the VAIO's doesn't come from Nvidia but from Sony...
This was already said in this topic.
You can post there to ask Sony to give more informations... : http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio...8&lastpage=yes

not really a bug - just how most laptops are w/ their special keys - there are multiple guides for various distros and model laptops on getting this working. brightness, while a feature in the nvidia driver - is not the brightness control you are referring to. the one you want working uses the acpi and directly controls the hardware. you should still be able to open nvidia-settings and change brightness that way but this is not the same brightness.

Brightness control is very limited on my Samsung q310 laptop (GeForce 9200M GS):
From one side, when I boot with acpi_fake_ecdt=1 kernel option the video.ko module provides control via /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness. However, the problem is that echoing values to this file has effect only while I am in text mode or use nv/vesa driver. It looks like nvidia (prop) driver somehow locks lcd-level control.

As a workaround, I am using scripts like this one to reduce backlight to minimum (run it as root):
#!/bin/bash
chvt 1
echo -n 10 > /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness
chvt 7

I am pretty sure that I am not alone in this situation. Is it possible to prevent nvidia driver from locking the brightness level while in X, or is this also vendor-specific? May be it is possible to introduce this option?

Bumping this, because I am desperate! Nvidia PLZ do something. We've spent too much on your hardware to be neglected like this.

Thanks!

Angry Re: Brightness control not working with nVidia driver

Same problem still with a Samsung R65 and a Geforce Go7400.
I just tried the new 173.14.12 and the 177.80 drivers and brightness control is still not working in X mode!
No surprise, I know. Everybody here has the same problem, but apparently not many enough that they would do something about it.
Never again a Nvidia graphics card for me!
