I guess FZ38M and FZ21Z has the same way to fix this problem (or not?) So if nvidia's guys will have solved this bug eventually for at least 38M, other FZ models with GeForce 8M would work too.
I have FZ31Z and need to adjust backlight... so at now it seems to be imposible i tried ALL methods but not successfully.

(sorry for my english)

I also have a Sony Vaio (VGN-NR21Z) rinning on Suse Linux 10.3 and the brightness controls do not work at all. Could NVIDIA let me know whether there is a fix which will be available soon? I have just upgraded to the latest driver but the brightness still does not work. Very irritating.

Not like nvidia really gives a sh*t. But having contacted Sony, they of course direct me to nVidia for driver support. nVidia directs me here; Hi thread.

Of course they must have intended that I find this thread by a similarly disgruntled group of users.

This horse has been kicked to death for almost 1.5 years now nvidia.

What? QQ, the low-level acpi in the 2.6 series changes too much? Awww.

Support this ****.

I'd like to precise that we don't really need NVidia to actually make our Fn keys work, "just" the backlight management which I believe is supplied by the NVidia chipset. My Fn keys already send a scancode to the acpi subsystem, so I can create an event and map them to the correct action, it's enough if NVidia give us BrightnessUp.sh and BrightnessDown.sh. I understand that the controller for the Fn keys is vendor specific, but shouldn't the brightness be controlled by the NVidia chip? Once we have the action we can take care of the rest. I mean my suspend key also did not work out of the box, but the suspend action was available to the system.

I have the same problem on Samsung Q45. The brightness buttons work with any driver but not with nvidias driver. When I switch to a text console, the buttons work, but not in graphic mode.

HP Workstation 8510W with Quadro FX 570M, still no luck with backlight adjustment when using Nvidia driver. Remains ok with Nv driver....
OpenSuse 10.3 SMP kernel w/ all updates.

Would posting a bug report increase the changes of getting this resolved? This is a workstation box....Thanks.

Does someone know if with the Nv driver is at least possible to change the backlight with Geforce 8400 M GT card?

Thanks!

Heeeey, NVIDIA corporation guys (aka moderators). Is it really hard to give us a couple lines of code to control the brightness? Or just explain us, why NVIDIA ignores this bug for a 1.5 year?
