I've just installed beta 171.06, removed --indirect from options and haven't notice any memory leak. At least Sytem is Gentoo x86_64.

you can pretty much assume this will not be fixed. It's been persistent for 7 months now with no response from nVidia within several months. I gave up. It'd be a different story if they were listening and trying, but they don't care.

This is where open source matters, where people who actually care will devote time to fixing the problem. Instead, you have to wait until someone who actually has access to the code cares enough.

I don't think they don't care, probably it is already fixed in some internal version. You have to know this is not official nvidia forum.

It would be great to have opensource drivers - which is not going to happen. But it would be nice just to have a public bug tracker.

No it's not fixed, they have clearly stated "can't reproduce".

drivers version: 173.08 beta
memory usage of compiz.real process in ksysguard does not grow anymore while clicking maximize/restore/maximize/...
Can someone confirm this positive news?

I was hopping that hardy would fix this problem, but it seems that the nvidia dirvers that comes bundled with hardy have the same memory leak problem.
In my box, memory usage just rocket ups.... its just ridiculous, i mean, like 1g of ram
after a couple of hours of using the sistem.
I hope new drivers WILL fix this issue SOON

Have you tried 173.08 beta drivers?

Any update on this issue? I'm running nvidia closed driver 177.13 beta with Fedora 9 x86_64 and compiz 0.7.6. I cannot seem to locate the offending source of a severe memory leak where xorg server consumes 4+gb of RAM in a few hours. Had the same problem under Fedora 8. How can I pinpoint and solve this problem? I would like to continue to run Compiz. However, I don't seem to have the issue without it running.
