Thumbs up PARTIAL SOLUTION: blank screen (laptop) after typing startx, Verion 1.0.9639 (legacy)

the driver Version 1.0.9639 seems to have problems detecting the correct primal display on many Notebook computers and then "uses" the (non existent) external monitor instead.

Option "IgnoreDisplayDevice" "CRT"

in the Graphics Device Section of xorg.conf might fix this issue. Occasionally occuring jittering of the console after quitting X stops when pressing the external/internal-display-toggle.

The huge and annoying DOWNSIDE :
you have to comment this line in the xorg.conf everytime you want to use an external display, projector/beamer, etc.!

What might also help is editing /etc/modules.d/nvidia (or /etc/modules.conf) as described in the README (though in my case it didn't )

Hope this helps
