Hmmm, might hold off on opening up and installing this until the differences in the two versions are clarified. Reading through the Witcher forums, it seems the finishing moves as well as a number of questions have also been removed from the US version. Might just return this to EB Games and pickup Hellgate or order the import version from GoGamer.

unreal and source are not ready for RPG world with quest/story and tons of dialog.

different type of engine.

Dialogue and story has little to do with handling polygons. When you buy a license for an engine you'll get more than an editor so it's possible to adapt a graphic engine in much more ways than what a modder is able to do by mere scripting and using the provided editor.

Source (an early build) was used for Vampire: Bloodlines and that game is regarded by many, despite its bugs and unpolished appearance, to be one of the best Action RPGs of recent years.
Lots of dialogue and options, nonlinear plot, vast outdoor levels with a detailed environment, etc... At least with Source we have the proof that that engine can be used for something different than FPS.

I've read the same thing. Thats why I bought the import version.

LOL

Seriously though nekro was right. FPS engines just aren't ready for quests. The reason The Witcher has such a strong story and characters is that the team had time to work on them. If they had to rewrite huge chunks of code to support quests they would have needed a lot more time and money and the story would have suffered.

Also it is quite possible that the Aurora engine offered better support or perhaps the devs were seasoned NWN modders and knew the engine well. Not a lot of games outside of Valve use the Source engine. That has to say something about it. Either it's tricky, the support sucks or it's to damn expensive. Remember this is the Devs first game, they have to start somewhere and a solid game like The Witcher is a good start. A game like Bloodlines isn't. Trokia was torn apart after Bloodlines release.

why xpand rally is not a good racer? because it uses chrome engine which at hearth is FPS engine.

each engine is design for specific purpose.

Also ask. Why was Bioshock so polished, where as Stalker, while still a very good game is a little rough?

Because T2 games didn't have to build their own engine. They used UE3 and middleware so they could focus on story, characters, levels, water effects.

GSC Had to build an entire engine, which took so long the engine had to undergo multiple revisions as it kept getting older and older looking. While we have a great looking game in the end, it can be crash prone on some PCs and the quest and scripting system is often prone to failure leaving quests uncompletable.
