Wow... I've missed almost 40 pages of posts here over the past 18 hours.
So now that the demo is "official" (at least on crysisdemo.com) are there 2 versions of the demo out? I heard somewhere that the one we got early yesterday had been out for a long time and wasn't optimized for dual or quad cores (or SLI). Is there a newer one out that IS optimized? I want to use all my cores.

Really for the core 2 that .6 jump is nothing. It runs at about 30C idle and 40C load (but of course depends heavily on the room temps) when I run it at the usual 3.0ghz. I take it up to 3.8ghz sometimes and it goes to about 36C idle and up to 48C load. If I run it at stock 2.4ghz then it stays below 30C for pretty much anything. Keep in mind my case has really good airflow.

I just got done spending 3 hours playing this 45 minute demo. ^^ I guess if you knew exactly what to do and where to go, it takes 45 minutes.. but man I was playing cloak and dagger, trying to kill off those annoying perusers. Its almost as if the enemies in the game have no more time on their hands then to hunt me down. ^^ And they dont reset! Unless designed to defend, they will constantly hunt you down based on last point of contact. Course this is also good since you can now setup diversions and then infiltrate a base with a silencer and minimal resistance (provided you kill before they can get a few rounds off). Seriously though, I haven't played any other game that made it an artform of sneaking up cloaked, decloaking and taking out a target or 2, and then cloaking and finding a hiding spot again.
So yea.. as you may have guessed..I loved it. ![]() My performance was a pretty consistent 17ish fps. I was running DX10, 1680x1050 with no AA and EVERYTHING set to very high (the game actually suggested this). Normaly in a multiplayer fps, 17fps is unacceptable, but in single player its not so bad. Its still smooth enough to react to the computer and such. Hopefully some of those tweaks will only increase fps. Visually the game is quite stunning. I wasn't noticing any of the rough edges from the mp demo. I had no strange crashes or the like either. Btw I really paid attention to the flare pit cause it was the center of some contraversy. The pit DID seem to drag down fps quite abit even though there didn't seem to be much reason to do so, I guess the flare is poorly design and uses alot of resources. Also the rock that had the low resolution texture? Bad luck... I've been hidding behind many rocks in the game, and none were as ugly as that one rock. It seems like the one rock they messed up on happened to be in a spot that most people would end up checking out.

I just tried out the 169.01 drivers and they act really strange.. With fraps running in game I could clearly see that I was getting higher framerates than with my old drivers.. but I could feel more lag.. It kinda felt like mouse lag..
Anyway I'm going to try the 163.75 drivers now..

Again, I don't know why guys keep claiming post-processing takes the most significant hit in frames in Vista DX10. Shaders are where it's at. The game is beautiful with high shaders enabled, but if you want consistent 30+ frames in DX10 you will set them to medium, shadows to high, and everything else you can max out on a GTX/Ultra.
Post-processing makes zilch difference in my framerate when going from very high to high/medium. But if I adjust the shaders I get a 10fps hit from medium to high and another 10 frame drop from high to very high. Try it and see. Been confirmed on two GTX rigs now in Vista.
