Set your settings game settings like mine and you'll see a steady 60fps

sure i will try it
just downloading the demo...

if it is unplayable in DX10 i will sell my card, not worth it to lower the settings just to play it smooth.
i just wait for faster cards instead.

Its almost as if the enemies in the game have no more time on their hands then to hunt me down. ^^ And they dont reset! Unless designed to defend, they will constantly hunt you down based on last point of contact. Course this is also good since you can now setup diversions and then infiltrate a base with a silencer and minimal resistance (provided you kill before they can get a few rounds off). Seriously though, I haven't played any other game that made it an artform of sneaking up cloaked, decloaking and taking out a target or 2, and then cloaking and finding a hiding spot again.

So yea.. as you may have guessed..I loved it.

My performance was a pretty consistent 17ish fps. I was running DX10, 1680x1050 with no AA and EVERYTHING set to very high (the game actually suggested this). Normaly in a multiplayer fps, 17fps is unacceptable, but in single player its not so bad. Its still smooth enough to react to the computer and such. Hopefully some of those tweaks will only increase fps. Visually the game is quite stunning. I wasn't noticing any of the rough edges from the mp demo. I had no strange crashes or the like either.

Btw I really paid attention to the flare pit cause it was the center of some contraversy. The pit DID seem to drag down fps quite abit even though there didn't seem to be much reason to do so, I guess the flare is poorly design and uses alot of resources. Also the rock that had the low resolution texture? Bad luck... I've been hidding behind many rocks in the game, and none were as ugly as that one rock. It seems like the one rock they messed up on happened to be in a spot that most people would end up checking out.
Crank down the Post Processing to medium for a 6-8 FPS boost and a really minimal visual difference. I went up from 17-18 FPS to 23-25 FPS that way.

Anyway I'm going to try the 163.75 drivers now..
Yes several people in here has suspected it, and it now seems very likely that the new beta drivers affects the DX10 mode of the game so that annoying mouse lag is now experienced. However you also gain 4-5 FPS in performance with the new beta drivers. So do you want extra performance or no mouse lag? Your call. Alternatively you can play the DX9 version with the new beta driers, which is not affected by the mouse lag and if you want change do some config tweaking to make it more DX10'ish both in visual quality and performance. IMHO the tweaks is a bad middleway, it gives me just as bad performance as DX10 and gives almost but not quite the visuals of DX10 = not worth it. One could argue that beta drivers + DX9 + tweaks would be the optimal choice because you'd see almost-DX10 visuals but escape the mouse lag from the real DX10, but I don't like it.

Loved the demo, this is a definite must buy, but honestly I have some issues with the fact my new 3 month old rig needs to be at lower than 1920x1200 even with AA off to run this game at an acceptable level.

i just tried 64bit DX9 and it works... not only that but theres a 5-10% boost and distant terrain looks much better than even very high DX10

When you see how freaking good the game looks you may think differently.

To be honest, I don't even think next-gen cards will play this game perfectly smooth with the shaders on very high and everything else maxed. The game looks like a movie at those settings.

It's no wonder these cards are struggling with it once you see how good it looks and how many landscapes are drawn on the scene at once. There is an entire world around you.

add "- DX9" to the target in the shortcut or if you wanna do it the slow way: start-> games -> rightclick crysis demo icon -> DX9.

My conclusion after extensive testing of settings and tweaks:

So here's where I stand now. I can't seem to find an acceptable quality/performance compromise, so I'm now having two shortcuts on my desktop, one DX9, one DX10 (the DX9 being 64bit but the DX10 being 32bit since the 169.01's ****s up the 64bit DX10 mode). So depended on my mood I can play with nice visuals or nice framerate.

One could argue that the beta drivers + DX9 + DX10'ish tweaks would be optimal because it would give almost DX10 visuals (unfortunately also aprox. DX10 performance), but without the real DX10 mode's mouselag. After having tried the tweaks, I don't really like them that much though. It just doesn't seem quite as pretty as DX10 but gives me DX10 performance and even though it doesn't have mouse lag, it just seems like a half-hearted incomplete solution IMHO. Maybe if some better tweaks surface before release, but for now I'll be playing in either pure DX10 or pure DX9.

First I'm gonna run through the demo in DX10 all very high except Post Processing medium to see the game at it's best with 20-35 FPS, well about 24 FPS average. Afterwards I will finish the demo again in the DX9 mode for a better overall gaming experience due to the now 30-40'ish FPS. I REALLY hope that we'll see some optimization/tweaks/driver fixes from Crytek and Nvidia before release (especially the mouse lag), because otherwise I'll simply have to go obtain XP64 and play in DX9 through the full game.

EDIT: Amazingly the 64bit DX9 mode works for me as well now, that's nice! I must have mis-tested it before.. If you indeed gain some noticable performance from it running in 64bit, it might be my new favorite mode/setting..

I'll let you guys know if I change my mind, and keep posting your preferred settings combo/mode and tweaks as they come

That's all I can say. Really.

I'm speechless. That was, hands-down, the best demo I've played IN A LONG TIME!!!

I played it on medium settings- and it screamed on my rig. Looked mighty fantastic to. I'm VERY satisfied. I'm sure with the new rig I'm sloooowly assembling I'll probably get to play it on "High" settings. SWEET!
