I was running 169.01 in vista 64, so unless 2GB ram is really holding me back, I wouldn't expect much. Maybe I'll try XP now.

Yay for Vista and DX10.
Can't you just right click "Play Dx9" or whatever? I know the beta defaulted to dx9 and had the option for dx10 which did not much.

I think that developers of crysis have some sort of new gpu, how could development be possible at so low fps?

yea you can, which actually will force it to run in DX9. I got about a 5-7fps improvement; it was surprisingly semi-playable @ 23 fps.

well its extremely playable for me in xp at everything at 1680x1050 with no AA and everything at high, goes in the forties and under heavy fighting in the 30's. very smooth and playable.

it takes a big hit with AA enabled, probably 35-40% hit, at 1920x1200 I was at 32 while looking around and in the low 20's while heavy action and this is with no AA, so I believe nvidia still needs to do some AA work, the game does look beautiful though, and very smooth. I really dont care about AA thats how good it looks. but I would love to see some more performance improvements.

here is my sig.
q6600 G0 at 3500
evga 8800 ultra superclocked. at 700/1785/2350.

my settings will be 1680x1050 on high with no AA, and very smooth and playable. turning down to 1280x1024 I saw no performance increase, so I believe the drivers are still having performance issues with this game, hopefully we will have a good one when the game releases, just like nvidia did with the bioshock release, the drivers almost doubled the performance.

Maybe by mid-to-late next year, sure, but by the end of THIS year? I don't think so, man. No way.

And we've not even gotten to play the snow parts, either, and for all we know they (and even the alien ship) may impress us more than we think.
I absolutely think we will see prettier games by the end of the year. GoW alone at max settings will be better looking than Crysis with stuff turned off.

If you are talking what games are capable of looking like, then no, but if you are talking about what they are playable at, of course its gonna happen.

And someone asked me earlier what i think should be done about this, and it's pretty damn simple. A game should be as jawdropping as it possibly can be while still being able to be played at max detail by a top end PC..at the time its released.

I can guarantee you i will have more fun playing a game at GoW quality full blast, than looking at a slideshow that looks slightly better but runs like ass.

it looks beautiful at high, and I think enabling very high is just using dx10 features. and performance takes a big hit.

Curious about the Great Big Widescreen status here, gentlemen. I won't be able to grab the demo until tomorrow, so might anyone here be interested in checking out widescreen status?

Seemingly, Cevat said "no custom FOV", which leads me to believe that Crysis may very well be another game played best on "tallscreens", or in other words, vert- for us widescreeners.
