Well we call 576p, ED or Enhanced Definition. Either way my TV does a surperb job scaling to there isn't a HUGE amount of difference.

Also our DVD with when used with a Progressive scan player are 576p. Does that mean our normal everyday DVD are actually HD? I've been wasting my time with BD and HDDVD!

You know...for being a $200 Home Theater in a Box...they're pretty damned good. I just wish there were more inputs. It's got coaxial-in and optical-in and then like 5 RCA-in...but that's it.

I've had it almost three years and it gets pretty damned loud. Sound quality is as good as can be expected from such a cheap system. I'm pleased with it.

I've compared the difference between good movies that are done in standard dvd and hd-dvd, and on a 44" tv from 12' it can be quite hard to tell the difference, unless you know what your looking for.

OTA HD does look very nice as long as the channel is not sharing their HD channel with another sub channel then it can look kinda crappy sometimes. I find the new Directv Mpeg 4 HD channels to look just as good as OTA HD channels. It especially looks much better than their current Mpeg 2 HD channels which are indeed HD Lite.

Nice buy! I almost got an HLT5087S but settled on Samsungs HPT5054 plasma instead. Have you noticed any uneven screen brightness? On all the HLTXX87s I looked at, the bottom of the screen looked dimmer, no matter what angle I looked at it from. About the only thing that fixed it was viewing it from such a low angle that the top of the screen dimmed too. Thats about the only reason I ended up going plasma instead.

Nope...no lighting issues. It's deliciously beautiful 1080p from top to bottom
