problem during driver installation (no precompiled kernel...)
I recently started to use Linux(Downloaded OpenSuSE 10.3 KDE), but I need to install the nvidia Graphics Driver in order to play games (because of 3d support)
I followed the instructions from the official website and downloaded some
driver files from the official nvidia repository and the driver itself (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run).
Then I typed "init 3"; logged in as root and started the installation. But I got an error message that No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel.....
I don't really know what this means, so I added the logfile.
And yes, I Downloaded the right driver File (Legacy Version, because of
Geforce 3 ti 200; and 32 bit version)
It would make me really happy if someone could help me with a really good understandable instruction about how to solve this problem, because it took me already some days until i found out how to get past the error message/problem of the running x servers (-->init 3) and how to get root in the text mode.
Thanks alot already^^

Re: problem during driver installation (no precompiled kernel...)
You need to have the correct set of kernel development files installed, please see http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-...ler-HOWTO.html; the most recent legacy graphics driver for your GPU is 96.43.01 (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99186).
