Default Re: Crysis DX9 vs DX10 = Quite a difference ^^

Seems like just from looking at jonelo's pics and from playing it on my own system in high vs very high ini tweaks, there is a tangible difference but it's one screen shots really can't capture completely. There's more of this immersiveness with the fog and the way there is a slight haze to your view.

It's evident in his pics where there seems to be more of a washed out look when you're facing the sun. In DX9, there's not.

It's not one of those huge "wow what a differece" changes but it's one of the little things that add up to a more immersive game experience. As others have said though, having all the dx10 goodies turned on via the ini tweak and running in DX9 is THE way to go.

As I suspected, the gaming communitity is furious that their sub par computers can't run the games at full tilt settings and avg 50 fps. We were TOLD it would be this way far in advance and that this game was designed to be played at max settings comfortably on next gen hardware.... not 7XXX series cards. I knew it would be that way though. I knew people would bitch about it. I'll just take my 30 fps and be happy.

Because it doesn't handle it as efficiently. That's the whole point of the DirectX10 API in the first place.

There probably isn't a single, solitary DX10 effect that couldn't be done in DX9, but what we're looking at is the cost of performance from doing it. And thus, your "5fps" performance that you describe. Given that, what's the effen point of running the game in XP except for a bunch of blowhard Vista-haters to carry on about how Vista and DX10 is a waste (not speaking of you in particular here)?

And if you look at those pics the OP put up, there is a clear difference there. Look at the sunlight rays; look at the crisper shadows/lighting on the grass; look at the more accurate shadows(especially of the palm tree); look at the reflective lighting coming off the vegetation, etc.

using pictures that are almost completely dark is not the best way to judge something as subjective as graphics.

Yeah, and it runs as a slideshow because it's not as efficient. And that's the point.

No one has shown yet, either, that you can enable the DX10 water effects in DX9. Where are the high cresting waves in these DX9 shots, guys?

What, the DX10 version lets you select a surfboard as one of your weapons?

Why is it that everything you add to every thread in this forum has to be so damn retarded?

I don't know if that's necessarily true at this point. I enabled some of the very high settings in dx9 through the config files and it seems to run much better than the dx10 command line. I'm hoping they just need to better optimize the dx10 path or something.

Well, every developer I have seen to this point has said that DX10 is a more efficient API, so hey, it's not my word but theirs. They're the pros in the business. I tend to believe them over the hordes of Vista-haters that are out there(not including yourself.)

Meh...

The difference between DX9 and Dx10 in the game is not huge

Plus in DX10 the game runs a lot slower

I dont think the same shaders are used. There was an example pic of what sunrays looked like in dx9..and then dx10, and dx10 looked more natural and solid while the dx9 mearly looked like these trails of light tethered from edges of things.

Its like the water, its not that the effects arnt there for dx9, its that they arnt the same, and that the dx10 is better and slower.
