I also have this problem. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with the nVidia driver 100.14.19.
I haven't tried the beta driver yet, though it sounds as if it really doesn't matter which one you use. Same results either way. I am very interested in getting this working properly. I really don't want to go back to XP. Not nearly as fun to develop in. |

By the way, I get 100% CPU usage (Dual Core T7300 2.0 Ghz) when using any 3D effect, and I doubt this is normal.
And my effects are still lagging... PLEASE NVIDIA TECHIES SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THAT. |

Just thought I would add this:
Just tried Kooldock under KDE, which doesn't rely on any GTK or Compiz libraries that I know of. The problem shows up here too in the EXACT same way.. This means that it IS an NVIDIA-problem and as such, I wonder when we will get at least a reply? |

Nope, nothing. Using the 169.04 with the same results.
Personally, what's bugging me the most, is that we wont even get a comment from NVIDIA. Totally ignoring their customers, is that really a good image to put out? |

As far as I can see they don't reply to "problematic" posts at all - especially for posts where people complain about low performance.
I guess they already know about, but maybe its hardware related so ... who knows :-/ lg Clemens |

I've installed the latest 169.07 drivers but they fix nothing at all.
I still have my effects laggy for 4 seconds before they get fluid and when I don't use them for awhile, the same thing happens again. It's been 4 months now I'm facing this issue and it is ANNOYING. This makes Compiz unusable... Moreover, there is something I do not understand. This issue seems to happen not on all 8400M GS cards... Once again I'm attaching a bug report, if that helps. Please Nvidia guys, make a statement about this. |

I have the same issue. The issue is described here http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99554
Try running in a terminal : # while true; do nvidia-settings -q all > /dev/null; sleep 25; done It fixed the problem for me. I've put it as a task in Gnome Sessions so that it runs when Gnome starts. |
