have you considered finding an older driver? I say this because I think older drivers didn't have powermizer functionality built in. I used to have a laptop with you card and it was actually quite fast. I couldn't tell you what driver it was, but I think it was before they changed the version numbers i.e. 169.xx. 8xxx perfomance is generally poor in linux. I'm not happy even with an 8600m gt

Update: situation seems to have been slightly improved after installing 169.12. The hiccups are still there, but are shorter. Transition to full performance mode seems faster.

That said, I'm disappointed that this update still doesn't include an option to simply disable powermizer in nvidia-settings.

Somebody know, how long time until the new driver comes to Livna repo?

'Cause my OS is Fedora Core, and I don't know how to install by .RUN

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know that the new driver is a lot better. Though everything is not super fluent yet, there is a huge improvement.

Stay tuned

Yes, I just installed, it's better than the 169.09, but not 100%. For example, my friend with a FX5500 gets better graphics than me!

Lets see how long time more a better driver comes..... because I'm still upsaid with my nvidia card.

Yeah definitely not super cool performances yet, but still better than 169.09. I'm still pissed off. At least now I know that before spending 1000 in a laptop I have to make some serious investigating. Nvidia cards are not necessarily top supported like I thought.

ouch, with some sata errors, yay. are you using s3 or suspend to disk?
First of all, Beryl runs great on GF2 MX so stop saying that stupidity. I'm expecting that my GF6800 will render web pages fast enough. Now it's just parody...

I've tried it on my 8600M GT and it definitely seems faster, with a few warnings:

1) I'm using compiz, so if you're using something else, I can't say if it'll be faster
2) If you're using compiz do NOT turn on the new Glyph cache. I've found scrolling webpages in Swiftfox 3pre-1 (optimized version of Firefox 3) is very slow if you do.

Well I use these drivers with my 8400M GS (acer 7720g notebook) and they are just the same.

Same sheet, different day...

I wonder what "Added support for the following new GPUs: * GeForce 8400 GS" means.
At least we finally know that the 8400m gs was not supported before

Compiz is still laggy to death and firefox tab switching and scrolling is still lame.

Shame on you Nvidia

compiz is still buggy, slow alpha-ware and firefox and unholy mess of 'xul', javascript and gtk - all three of them slow.

If you want a fast browser choose opera or konqueror.
