Well you name it and I have tried it, 64bit DX10 32Bit DX10 64bit DX9 and 32bit DX9! LOL!
I think I am probably one of the few people here that is able to run DX10 well at 1680X1050 with Shaders set to high and all other options at high or very high while keeping things at 30+fps. However there is nasty mouse lag that hampers DX10 mode compared to DX9 mode which has Zero mouse lag and feels much better over all when playing. After doing some of the ini tweaks I found on the net which gives you the same very high options that were supposedly only available in DX10 I can honestly say that the best combo I have found is to run the demo under Vista 64 using the dx9 command+ini tweaks. 64 bit also runs a tad better than 32bit while adding a bit more detail to the distant mountains. The FPS is also a little higher over all than compared to DX10 plus you get all the good eye candy without the annoying mouse lag Here are some shots using the ini tweaks in DX9 mode with Vista 64- Settings are- 1680X1050 Application controlled AA and AF. Textures-Very high using ini tweak Water-Very high using ini tweak. Sun shafts are turned on using ini tweaks and all other options are set to high. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My specs are: Q6600@3.4ghz 8800GTX 650core 2040mem 1720shaders 4gb ddr2 850mhz 4 4 3 5 Asus P5b deluxe |

IMO there is just something about the way the lighting is. In dx9, it just appears trees get darker in the center reguardless of where the light hits it, while in dx10, light shadowing is more accurate. Also, although Im only going by the dx9/10 comparison shots from not to long ago but before the demo came out, it appears dx10 allows for more trees (farther LOD line for the trees) to be rendered. That would most likely be a setting in the high/very high configurations though.

Oh yeah im not denying that the lighting and shadows are not more accurate under DX10 because I know that they are My only point of posting these pics was to show people that it is indeed possible to run some of these very high effects under DX9 that were only supposed to be found in DX10. Such as the sun shafts and higher level of rippling water. Either way I would rather play it in DX9 as the frames are a bit better and with the ini tweaks it looks spectacular and most important of all NO MOUSE LAG. For you people that have not played it under DX9 mode try it out and then you will see what I mean by mouse lag in DX10. |

I wanna see the FPS on Action Shots, show a screen of a gun fight with those settings, i'm still not convinced that it constantly stays above that fps in a close range battle with multiple npcs.

Legend did you use the same exact same tweaks as the french blogger or what? Can't you just post the specific changes you've made now you've dedicated a whole thread to this?

I played the demo through in DX-10 mode all high except textures, shaders and water on very high. I didn't tweak as much as you did, and still found the game perfectly playable @ 1680x.

Wow, shaders on very high is a FPS killer but im glad you still found it playable. Try shaders on high for a nice FPS boost while sacraficing minimal image quality. |
