Default hint: nvidia.ko causes system hangups cause of "not an ELF file"

High!

Cause my problems with an unusable nvidia.ko and effects like, hanging system, blackscreens and error messages like "... not an ELF file" made me crazy, I thought it would maybe a usefull hint for others:

When loading module nvidia (modprobe nvidia) I got messages like "nvidia.ko not an ELF file".

The problem I had was ldconfig. Ldconig uses a cache-file in /etc/ldconfig.cache. This file was defect, so I switched Linux to runlevel 3, deleted /etc/ldconfig.cache and restarted the system. After doing that I called ldconfig to generate a new /etc/ldconfig.cache

After that I could normally install the driver and use it without any problem
