Well... it works. Definite performance improvement over what I was getting before. So far, I can comfortably play at 1680x1050, 2xAA, 16xAF, GCAA, MSTAA, and all in-game options set to "High". Considering my two video cards are now 1 1/3 years old... they play this game extremely well. I think that was the best $900 I've spent on gaming hardware over a year ago.

I'm gonna' try some other games out tomorrow night. Really glad I finally got SLi working properly on this rig. For a while I was beginning to think that was impossible. Thanks for the assist guys.

Just leave it on the default setting (single GPU), it'll work fine as long as SLI is enabled. It's been like this for ages now, dunno why.

Didn't you start a thread about this Mr B?

Aww mann it looks crisp on that rez!

25 fps on veryhigh using that rez tho :/ but it doesn't feel that laggy, only a bit kinda slow-ish...

CRT monitors FTW, allways better graphics when u raise the res...1280x1024 witch is the native rez on my crt isn't comparable to 2560x1600.

Default Re: Crysis SLI Performance Feedback

I'm beginning to tire of SLi...

My first experience with SLi was like Heaven... it was with dual 7600GTs. There were situations where I saw over 2x the performance of a single 7600GT. Then when I got my 8800s SLi just never seemed to work right.

Sold that rig then got the one I have now. Tried two 7900GTs and once again... just never could get it working right. Pulled the two 7900GTs out and put in a single 7900GT 512MB... happy as can be. Gonna' put in a 7900GTX just for kicks to see how much better the GTX can play Crysis than the GT.

I was gonna' go for dual 8800GTXs... but I'm gonna' hold off to see how well the new architecture they're gonna' release performs. Right now this 7900GT (soon to be GTX) plays everything just fine, save for Crysis.

Unhappy Re: Crysis SLI Performance Feedback

  • Latest nV-GeForce Driver – 175.16 for Vista_x64
  • Display Settings: 1920x1200/DX10-64bit-HDR/AA-4x/Object Quality-VHigh/ALL Rest-High.
  • Results: Min=25-FPS/Max=40-FPS/Average=33-FPS

Note:
With AA-OFF, all result rates increase by 5 FPS.

Comments:
Any PC game that depends on speed and interaction with I/O resources, such as video frame rate and command keys, has to cruise around 60 FPS. So playing Crysis below 40 FPS, I am not in full control of the game – hate to die for no reason For now, Crysis is awesome eye candy with realistic motion graphics, 3D/HDR visuals and earful of quality digital sounds.

Hey aloofski, remove the AA and you can use "Veryhigh on the cheap" tweak for better graphics. It will sure look better than what it does now. Here you go, try it out.

'Very High' On The Cheap

There's another thing you can try if you find Very High mode is just a bit too strenuous for your system. You can try the "cheap" version of Very High, which basically only implements the more obvious visual enhancements of Very High. To do this, instead of editing your .cfg files as covered above, all you need to do is set your in-game settings all to High as normal, then add the following commands to your System.cfg file (or just test them in the console first): r_UsePOM=1, r_sunshafts=1, e_water_ocean_fft=1, q_Renderer=3 and r_colorgrading=1. This will make High look extremely similar to Very High in most respects, but with quite a bit less of a performance hit. In a pinch, if you still need extra FPS, try disabling one of the effects, though keep in mind that q_Renderer=3 is necessary for color grading to work. You can also turn off Edge AA (r_UseEdgeAA=0) to make things look crisper and boost performance further.

Default Re: Crysis SLI Performance Feedback

Crysis has terrible SLI scaling. It only scales under some resolutions, under certain settings and it makes things worse, most of the time.

Example:

Windows XP32 - 1680x1050 - DX9 - All High - GTX280
Single Card: AVG - 51.7 Minimum - 32
SLI Enabled - AVG -45 Minimum - 25

I have also replicated these results in-game with consistently lower FPS when SLI is enabled...

What is this? In the worst possible scenario, IT SHOULD NOT IMPROVE AT ALL. Not make things worse... This is unbelievable...

CoD4 and DMC4, now these games have great scaling...
