Angry 32bit compatibility problem with latest Linux driver

Mandriva Linux 2007.0 - GeForce 7800 GTX
old driver 9755
new driver 100.14.11

The new driver installed perfectly on 64bit AMD and Intel dual core systems. Everything worked flawlessly at 1920x1200. glxgears returned 18000 fps. Not so good with
Google Earth however. That was working fine but with the new driver there are no compatibility libraries in /usr/lib/. All OK in /usr/lib64; libGL, libGLcore, nvidia-tls etc. Google Earth cannot be made to work with the 64bit libraries nor will it use older libraries based on the previous driver. I always install without options but I tried reinstalling in expert mode which prompted for a directory root for compatibility libraries - I told it to accept the default /usr but still no libGL in /usr/lib. Does anybody have any experience of this problem or know how to resolve it?

Cool Re: 32bit compatibility problem with latest Linux driver

Replying to my own post - bad form I know.

Tried running the installer again with the --update option and that retrieved the 100.14.19 package which did prompt for 32bit compatibility library installation. That worked fine but GoogleEarth now crashes seconds after launch. The application takes the blame for this and sends a bug report back to Google. So the nvidia driver problem appears to be solved. I hope this tip may help somebody.

I don't know Mandriva but GoogleEarth is a 32bit app. The 32 driver is not enough, you need some sort of X "layer" in between.

Under Gentoo I installed the app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs package to use 32bits graphic app under 64bits system. You need to find out (probably on some Mandriva forums) what package install equivalent files for your distro.

PS: glxgears is a false test as it calls the 64bit program which of course interact well with the 64bits drivers.
