Very nice g80. However it would have been even nicer if you had higher resolution on the shadows. Like 2048

Thats too much, also get rid of that overexposed HDR. Just change shadow resolution to 2048!

With this command; e_shadows_max_texture_size = 2048

nonsense. The 2048 shadows suck too many FPS and don't look real. Real shadows are not that precise in real life.

Leave them set to 1024. You get like 5fps avg just from going down to 1024.

i wish there was a tweak to push out the shadow lod line where shadows blur out in the distance. q_shadershadow=3 is the closest thing but rly not at all what i am looking for.

Yes they do indoors at close range... Shadows fades away more and more the further the object is from what its shadow is casted from.

Besides, now were not conserning about FPS as this is only used temporary for screenshots. Indoors you definately want higher resolution shadows. But outdoors you dont want high res shadows.

actually u always want high res shadows, u just have to adjust the level of blur applied to the shadows based on the distance of light source to caster, and distance from caster to receiver.

See that's the problem that the shadows in the game have. They're totally unrealistic in that regards. I've never seen a palm tree cast a perfectly shaped shadow onto a structure 100 feet away in real life...

Valve got it right with their shadows just like they did with their physics. I know the crysis shadows and physics are capable of cool things but it seems like the simple stuff that should "just work" don't.

Those unrealistic shadows objects cast in crysis were one of the first things I said I didn't like and addressed it with several shadow screen shots in Gaco's final retail config thread.

Nano, doesn't matter if we're talking about FPS or not, my main goal is what looks real and what doesn't and high resolution shadows both outdoor AND indoors don't look right. Look around you in the room you're in. None of the objects cast perfectly chiseled detailed shadows... If there were a way to configure the shadows in crysis to begin at 2048 right next to the object and eventually fade down to 512 progressiely into nothing, they would have scored so many more brownie points in my book.
