Hi,
I upgraded my Fedora Core 6 installation to FC8 and have now spent two days trying to get my dual monitor setup back up. I have tried both the kmod-nvidia package from livna and the direct install from the nvidia website. With the nv open source drivers I can only get one screen of my dual-monitor setup to work while the other flashes weird colors. With the nvidia drivers I can get both to work but I'm stuck at 640x480 resolution. The nv driver works at 1280x1024 resolution for a single monitor. I've tried lots of different xorg.conf configurations including my working config from the FC6 installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the nvidia bug report log and my most recent xorg.conf. - dharhas |

Some more info. After doing some more searching in the forums I found that I was getting the log contains the error messages 'Unable to read EDID for display device DFP-0' but when I type 'nvidia-xconfig --query-gpu-info' I get :
Number of GPUs: 1 GPU #0: Name : Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI PCI BusID : PCI:7:0:0 Number of Display Devices: 2 Display Device 0 (DFP-0): EDID Name : DELL 1905FP Minimum HorizSync : 30.000 kHz Maximum HorizSync : 81.000 kHz Minimum VertRefresh : 56 Hz Maximum VertRefresh : 76 Hz Maximum PixelClock : 140.000 MHz Maximum Width : 1280 pixels Maximum Height : 1024 pixels Preferred Width : 1280 pixels Preferred Height : 1024 pixels Preferred VertRefresh : 60 Hz Physical Width : 360 mm Physical Height : 300 mm Display Device 1 (DFP-1): EDID Name : DELL 1905FP Minimum HorizSync : 30.000 kHz Maximum HorizSync : 81.000 kHz Minimum VertRefresh : 56 Hz Maximum VertRefresh : 76 Hz Maximum PixelClock : 140.000 MHz Maximum Width : 1280 pixels Maximum Height : 1024 pixels Preferred Width : 1280 pixels Preferred Height : 1024 pixels Preferred VertRefresh : 60 Hz Physical Width : 360 mm Physical Height : 300 mm which seems to indicate the the EDID stuff is working. - dharhas |

In your bug report, I see:
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device DFP-0 (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device DFP-1 If the EDID of both your display devices isn't getting detected, then the driver is falling back to safe defaults (640x480 in your case). Are your display devices directly attached to the graphics card, or is there some intermediary device (KVM, etc) inbetween? Were you using the same 100.14.19 driver in FC6 ? |

No I was using the 100.14.11 driver on FC6. I tried unistalling the 100.14.19 driver and reinstalling the 100.14.11 driver but it did not work either.

There is a KVM in between but both monitors work fine in Windows XP and were working on FC6 before the upgrade.

Does the problem persist if you remove the KVM?
Does the problem persist if you test 100.14.23? |

The problem persists if I install 100.14.23. I'll try the direct connection without the KVM right now.

ok Removing the KVM seems to have fixed the resolution problem. But is there anything I can do to get this working with the KVM since it used to work with the old driver and also running nvidia-xconfig seemed to be able to see the EDID values? Its fairly critical that I be able to use the KVM.

You can save the EDID, and then feed it back to the driver with the CustomEDID option. See the driver README.

Thanks for all your help. I did the CustomEDID thing and it looks like everything is working fine now.
