Default X fails to restart after suspend (RmInitAdapter failed!)

Suspend to ram works fine for me, after resume everything including X work fine.
The only problem is that when I restart X after resume (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) it fails to start again.

Bugreport is attached.

I get some /dev/nvidia0 (Input/Output Error) and RmInitAdapter failed! messages.

Does the problem persist if you load the NVIDIA kernel module with the NVreg_SaveVBios=1 command line parameter (when it's first loaded after a clean reboot)?

no, it works fine thx.
but when I switch to a vt after the second suspen/resume cycle I can only see white lines. moving from the bottom to the top. (I use vesafb).

and if I don't use vesafb the vt stays black even after the first suspend/resume.

I experienced the same problem: after a S2R or S2D from X and logging out to the console, X failed to start again. With "NVreg_SaveVBios=1", X started okay but the console was messed up (it seemed the driver had failed to restore the right resolution/refresh rate). It could still receive input and I could start X many times afterward, but I haven't found a way to restore the terminal (I may look for ways to changing the resolution to see if it works though).

I have a GeForce Go 7300, the driver is already loaded with NVreg_RegistryDwords="PerfLevelSrc=0x2222". My laptop (Acer Aspire 5583WXMi) suspends to disk and RAM well in X and console (with a few workarounds).

I'll have to take a closer look at this locally. Dragoran, what kind of notebook are you using?

A Zepto 6615WD with a 7600 Go 512MB , Core2Duo T7400.
Maybe this helps debugging this:
When I don't use vesafb and don't use NVreg_SaveVBios=1 the screen stays black after resume and with the nv driver it always stays black after resume.

I have the same problem with suspend to disk ... plus the mouse does not work after a resume from disk. I posted this on another thread within this forum, but I'll repost them again here:

Fedora 7
Compaq Presario V6107AU
AMD Turion64 x2 ( dual-core )
nVidia GForce 6150 Go with the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11 driver
nVidia MCP51 controller

$ uname -rmiv
2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 #1 SMP Tue Jun 12 14:56:37 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64

I just tried suspend to disk using kde's kpowersave from the system tray and the selecting "Suspend to Disk". It suspends successfully, although my notebook still has the power / LED lights on.

So I then press the power button for a few seconds to completely turn off the notebook, and then press again to turn on, it successfully loads from the image in swap, and restores my session but in screensaver mode ( I am using an opengl screensaver ). I then typein my password to unlock the screensaver, and everything is restored... except that my mouse does not work.

If I then hit Ctrl+Alt+Backspace ( because I could not end my current x.org session ) using my mouse, x.org then fails to restart. dmesg shows the following:

NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x31:0xffffffff:949)
NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed
NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x31:0xffffffff:949)
NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed
NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x31:0xffffffff:949)
NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed

I filed a bug on this internally that's being investigated. I can't promise that a fix will make it into the next driver release, though.
