You need to remove the restricted-drivers package so that the old driver packages are removed aswell. Please google on how to install the latest drivers with your specific distribution version.

yeah tried that. removed all that people have said and added stuff people have said and followed nvidia readme and posted loads on ubuntu forum where no one can help me either.
really i could do with the stable or some proper debs of this driver... |
