compiz with 8600GT erratic behaviour

well i installed the drivers 169.04 successfully on SuSE 10.3;
glxinfo shows the driver name as nvidia;
however the driver says 'unknown' at my computer....
also when i changed my display frm xorg to xgl; on restarting; the open windows freezes and so i have to revert back to xorg;
wat could be the problem?...............
