Hi,
I have for several years not been able to use the nvidia drivers on my AMD64 system (FC7) as it won't start up. When I do all the correct things - like constructing xconf - the system starts up in text-mode without any problem (and no errors) but as soon as it switches to the graphic display my screen goes blank with the message : " signal out of range". And when I go into the X-log it says that the pixel frequency is 350 Mhz. That is of course way to high as the system can max. use 150-200 Mhz (pixel clock frequency of the monitor is nowhere to found but the highest display frequency is 1289*1024 with HF of 80 KHz and VF of 75 Hz. My video card is a nvidia NV18 GEFORCE MX4000 (as reported by the hardware monitor in Linux) and I am currently using the VESA driver that works correctly. However, when I want to start certain programs I get the message "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display 0:0". Although the GLX module is loaded (see below). The program I want to load is e.g. "wine explorer.exe". My hope is that when I get the problem with the nivia driver solved this problem is also gone. The installed - but not used - nivia driver is: xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx-96.43.01 (at least that is the name of the directory) To minimize space I will give only the relevant sections of my xorg.conf: ____________________________________ Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "glx" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" EndSection .... Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "IMAX" ModelName "17N" DisplaySize 337.9 270.3 HorizSync 31.0 - 81.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0 Option "dpms" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "Videocard vendor" BoardName "nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 4000 AGP 8x]" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 Modes "800x600" "640x480" "1024x768" "1280x1024" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024" EndSubSection EndSection _________________________________ One last clue: glxinfo gives also the GLX missing error and its output is not very dlear to me. I hope somebody with more knowledge of the controls of the nvidia driver can tell me how to solve this problem. Joep |
