96.43.01 kernel-2.6.23 Unable to load the kernel module
I'm using Fedora 8 DVD
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
Generic NVidia MX 440 w/AGP 8x
I disables SELinux, turned off firewall and and changed init level to 3 before compiling. I installed the proper header files from DVD. I did have to use the --kernel-source-path option to tell it where the headers are. I am presently unable to get it on the internet since I have a Win-modem (I do have an external but don't want to bother with it.)
I used this same driver under Fedora 7 DVD without a problem.
nvidia-installer.log.zip is attached
I tried the same media in my Dell laptop:
Pentium M 1.4 GHz
60 G HD
NVidia Go 5200 w/32M
In that system it all worked fine so It looks like the problem is with Fedora 8 itself not liking the AMD Athlon XP.
I'll now take the problem up with fedoraproject.org
