Default Fighting optical overscan?

I'm new to this forum... My problem is optical overscan. I use 50" sony back projection TV as a display, thru dvi-hdmi cable, with 1280x720 resolution 50Hz, progressive. And the TV has ridiculous optical overscan. Task bars are not visible, etc. It's around 30 pixels on every side, that's "hidden" by the TVs frames...

What I'm wondering, is there some options to nvidia kernel module or perhaps to xorg in xorg.conf, or some other way to make the display adapter (8500GT) to send out the 1280x720 resolution, but provide to Xorg X server something more close to actually showing resolution? Something like 1220x660? That way I could see everything at the desktop and there would be no "hiding" places for little application screens, taskbars, mouse cursor, etc...

Thank you in advance!

P.S. Does 8500GT have the mpeg2 video decoding capability? To offload some of the work from the cpu?
