Post New nForce Audio Drivers on Windows Update

I saw thread over at the nForcersHQ that noted new audio drivers for the nForce available at Windows Update (version 5.10.2934, dated 14 April 2003). Haven't tried 'em yet, so no idea how good they are....

Cheers,
JND

I installed them. Work fine. Not sure if there is still crackling in some games, but I muted line-in so mightn't happen anyway.

I finally got around to giving them a try. Bad idea. They didn't install right from Windows Update, so I had to go in and manually install them -- no big deal. I fired up Winamp and it was hiccuping like a kid who chugged a gallon of Kool-Aid before running around the block. Grrrr. I had no problems with any sound stuttering with the previous drivers (just crackling in GR and SC).

(Note: you might be thinking PEBKAC*, but I've installed audio drivers from WU on other occasions without a problem.)

Then uninstalling the drivers didn't work right and I got a BSOD on reboot. I finally managed to get into safe mode and uninstall the drivers properly. It somehow managed to goober up my video drivers as well. Methinks I'll wait until the full package comes out and just restart Splinter Cell every half hour.

Cheers,
JND

PEBKAC is always true assuming that a human is operating the computer.

I had no problems installing, though windows update often fails. The crackling sounds still occur in some games with this driver version. No apparent difference to me.

They should improve performance, at the least. (I know the 3.3x set is supposed to, at any rate.)
They're not quite the latest, the full pack coming should actually FIX the distortion issue.

Cool, I only just recently enabled dual channel so this thing just keeps getting faster.

Every time I try to install them I get a BSOD and then the onboard sound quits working, any suggestions?

That's the set that was giving me problems. Oh well, I'll just wait until nVidia posts it on their website.

My suggestion would be salong the lines of checking to see if the hidden driver, nForce Audio, gets updated in these situations...as well as the two visible obviously.

The hidden driver is not getting updated, nor will it update if I attempt to do so manually. I got the BSOD error worked out (was caused by the nV IDE drivers) but when that hidden driver doesn't update it causes a reverb effect in the sound.

Yes I checked the effects in the SoundStorm menu and they were off. Thank God for System Restore.
