Default Call of Duty 5 back to World War II

Those of you who enjoyed the latest Call of Duty’s modern-day approach may be saddened to learn that Treyarch (the dev team responsible for three, and, who will quite possibly end up doing seven) is taking the series back to World War II for the fifth game in the series.

Well, that’s if a job ad on the Treyarch website is anything to go by.

The ad, which is for a level builder, in case you’re interested, doesn’t give away any concrete info as such, but after asking for applicants with “working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres”, does go on to add, “if you’re a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!”.

Which if you ask us is a bit of a giveaway. Why would the ad say that if the person lucky enough to bag the job ends up on designing levels for a modern-day or futuristic shooter anyway?

What do you reckon? Are we reading too much into it? Also, what do you make of the step back to WWII? After the success of COD4, is this what you really want? As ever, let us know in the comments section below.

Oh, and cheers to forum user ‘farquad92’ for the heads up. Your stock is rising number 92…

It would be much better if they stuck to a modern setting, WWII has been done so many times.

Maybe vietnam or some more recent conflicts or operations.

It would be kinda neat to see something like Operation Just Cause, The Gulf War, Operation Eagle Claw, Operation Manta or maybe something in Sierra Sierra Leone like operation Barras

To say COD4 is crap puts you within a very small minority of opinion.

The modern setting was a very welcome change.

How about a SWAT type setting?

Might work and would be good with this engine.

i like modern setting, but i don't like how the game plays, you simply are not important, you could sit in the corner and your team does almost everything for you. COD4 is a good game to watch, but doesn't have that much play value. from time to time you are actually important when it ask you to snipe someone, or blow up something up.

CoD4 was bad? are you crazy?

i think the MP portion of the game is incredible. i agree the campaign is lacking at times, but it has some very good ideas including the long shot sniper and the shooting from the airplane.

Infinity Ward FTW!!!

I really like zer0's idea, COD: Stone Age. To me that would be totally cool. Barbaric cave people inventing weapons and fighting for territory while taking down a T-rex!! I'm down! Then maybe they can come across some alien life that once existed on the planet and get some futuristic weapons..

Hey we're all entitled to our opinions. COD4 best FPS this year for me so far. Sheesh and I still got a good 3-4 games to go, I'm losing track actually...
