Question Your thoughts on the state of DirectX 10?

I personally think it has just begun, and we really will not see its benefits for a year or more.

But for now, there are a few games that benefit from it.

Quote:
Figured I would do some tests.

With all settings the same (all high, except Medium shadows), I ran some tests. I did not enable any extra DirectX 10 options, so we'd have an accurate test. Apparently, Capcom has done a great job at porting this game over to PC, as really, it is about the only DirectX game I can think of that actually runs faster in DX10, not to mention you have a lot more options in DirectX 10, like the nice fur shader, enchanced motion blur, and better filtering.

It's still sad to see that Crysis runs better in DX9 in XP "tweaked" than Vista/DX10, not to mention Company of Heroes also runs worse in DX10. Gears of War has the option to enable 4x anti-aliasing via DirectX 10 which is nice.

So for right now, Lost Planet, in my opinion, is the best showcase of DirectX 10, ironically.

As for Gears of War, here's a comparison when using anti-aliasing, which is available in DirectX 10 for Gears of War.

GoW DX10 is meh.

Lost Planet might be the only game to put the DX10 to good use without sacrificing much performance hit. (thats of course besides the good use of quad-core CPUs!)

Another point for the Framework engine

DX10 is good but crappy projects like Crysis make it look bad. I hope EA/Crytek dies for being morons...

It will be another year or so until a game really shows off some impressive results and about 3 years until it becomes a standard over DX9.

For the moment, thinks will improve once it gets more mature, once developers now how to use it completely:

- quite slow
- not really any visual advantages over DX9
- games/ drivers not optimized enough
- DX10 goes in windowed mode, if another program interfere, DX9 not

If it wasn't for Lost Planet I wouldn't have any faith in DX10 at all. MS MUST be a little pissed that their Vista selling Crysis dropped the DX10 ball.

I hope Dead Rising and RE5 IF it comes to PC makes good use of DX10 like LP did.

I hate dx10. Why? Witcher doesnt have it
But then again, if it did have it...loading times would be upwards to 4 minutes and beyond....GAY!

Seriously though. Right now, dx10 isnt lookin' to great...but i can see it bloomin' good in the future.
