Exactly. I didn't buy a widescreen display because I wanted the top and bottom of the image chopped off. I bought it so the game could extend my view of the world further in the direction that it does the most good. It still boggles my mind that anyone would argue that vert- is proper widescreen.

MS (and prob Sony too - I have no idea) should stop writing 720p/1080i/1080p on there boxes as it is misleading. There is no 'Supports' written on the box it just says "720p/1080i/1080p" which is frankly incorrect. Maybe then people will not complain about the graphical jaggy mess that is Halo 3 when it is supposedly running in 1080p.

If you set the output on your 360 to either of those 3 resolutions does the game stop working? If the answer's no then how was it incorrect?

Honestly, for anyone that even remotely supports this lawsuit you should just be grateful that you have life good enough that you having nothing better to complain about than the internal rendering resolution of your entertainment.

Umm, you quoted him out of context. He said that if it said "supports" on the box then it would be accurate. Calling it 720P is flat out wrong though because it's actually 640P, so while it supports 720P through upscaling, the source content is still 640P.

I'm actually really surprised they didn't do that. It's a difference no average consumer would pick up on, so no damage to the sales on that front, and they don't look like liars when some random guy on the internet notices that the game isn't actually 720P. Never mind the fact that it's not even close to 1080P.

I never said I'd be happy, and you should stop implying that I'm saying anything other than what I am saying. Further to the implication argument, is "HDTV 480p/720p/1080i" a lie? Or are you simplying implying that you "thought" that it didn't have the word "compatible" that it wasn't native? What about the possibility that your the one with the wrong assumption because the word "native" doesn't preceede the resoltions?

720p "should" mean 1280x720 but it does not, as the industry has movies at "1080p" that are actually 1920x9xx, or 1360x768, etc. and all are labeled either "720p" or "1080p" resolution. If the game said it ran at 1280x720 resolution at 60hz, then that'd be in computer lingo, and would be a small form of "false advertising." This is nothing more but a bunch of lawyers trying to get rich, while each purchaser of Halo 3 gets a 15% Xbox Live due to the lawsuit.

You've quoted me out of context so I won't bother with your frivolous remarks about me having nothing better to complain about.

If you got a regular DVD from the video store and it said "720p/1080i/1080p" on the back (because in this day and age we all have upscaling DVD players) do you honestly think that is acceptable???

If it said Supports 720p/1080i/1080p devices or some such statement then it is fine, but it doesn't so that is what I would call misleading.

while i agree that it is misleading, Bungie has done nothing wrong.

the fact remains, that if you run your 360 at 720p/1080i/1080p, the game works and the displayed image is at that resolution. the matter of how they get to this resolution does not matter. the game is displayed at 720p/1080i/1080p regardless. sure, some pixels may be repeated, but the image is still HD.
