My lightning rod is too long. Games are too short.

I don't know what you're talking about. Bioshock is short and Half-Life 2 Episodes 1 and 2 are very very short. Have some patience... Games aren't really meant to be beat in a day, but more and more games are becoming easy to do so.

thingding, ive had moments like this. If I'm afraid I wont ever finish a game and get bored of it, or im allready bored of it but im really interested in seeing what happens, cheat. God mode, one shot everything... see everything, then delete the game satisfied you arnt missing anything.

As was already said: bad games are too long, good games are too short.

I think your big problem is you're buying all the games up front so you're subconsiously feeling like you're wasting money if you don't play them soon. Buy them one at a time; games don't go away, they just get cheaper.

I haven't finished Far Cry yet but thats a good thing.
Same with Oblivion and Stalker

Half life 2 episodes are more like commercial breaks.

heh heh I'm loving this thread guys never seen you all agree on something before! Perhaps it is just me after all

But I gotta confess I loved Far Cry only wouldn't call it a classic cos it outstayed its welcome. And personally I got sick of killing Antlions well before I got to see the striders.

And Doom 3, as much as I love it, should have been six hours.

Devs in my perfect world would look at a game and think "well the ideas are getting a little less exciting" and wrap it up, get it out there on the cheap but more games more often.

Hmm wait that sounds like episodic gaming. And we all know how that went..

Episodic gameplay is a great idea in theory, but no company has pulled it off successfully. With a big enough company and enough "subscribers" you could easily make excellent episodic gameplay on time.

Just think how much money MMORPG games like Everquest (the original) or WoW make. With that much money you could easily employ enough game devs to put together good content every month.

Some times it shocks me how few updates MMOs get.

I totally cheated on Far Cry. Here's another one: I've never finished Half Life. Or Doom. In fact I've played through the first campaign of Doom maybe 50 times and never touched the third one. It was too silly.

I miss levels, and by that I mean more discreet 3 minute levels. The beauty about them was allowing you to indulge without having to commit. Being at just one part of a long winding road is daunting to get back into if you've been too busy to touch a game for a couple of weeks (Which is usually the case for me).
