From what i read it has something to do with ESA and Nvidia.

There will be thermal monitors and controls for all the fans, plus some Nvidia temp/speed software manager.

It looks like the differences between the 1000 and the 1010 are :
  • integrated fan controller
  • Side fan
  • no foam padding on the left side
What I don't understand is the last point. Why no foam padding, if the case is meant to be silent ? Hmm.

Oh well, just an update to the thread, the pc is up and running, and thanks to nvclock, it's really silent (not to mention wicked fast! compiling a huge project with make -j8 is sweet! )...

Biophysics simulations. We're working on protein folding, protein aggregation and non-conventional drug design.

Smartass. That's my desktop machine. We have 17 more workstations, plus a 9 node cluster with infiniband, plus access to several 128+ nodes clusters...

That said, we now have a working drug (about which I can't tell much more, n.d.a.) that's been designed with simulations run on the workstations alone. Not all scientific simulations requires supercomputers, you know ?

Nope, the ram are just behind the rear 12cm fan, it seems like it's enough. Moreover, they're not overclocked, so...

Linux software raid, configured in raid 0. Here's the official how-to, it's a little old, but it's still good: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO.html
