Default Dracula X Chronicles Review

This is kind of late, but hopefully this review may let people know it's a pretty damn good purchase.

Gameplay:

Funfactor: 9 (would've been a 10, but I got 100% completion rate in the PC-Engine import, so it wasn't very new to me; Crispin Freeman is excellent as always, although I kind of miss Dracula's original voice actor in SotN and his voice actor in CoD; lots of depth; fun non-metroidvania style that should be used again in some future games, i liked the return to it; cool, cool intro; doesn't clear up any mysteries in the timeline. That kind of sucked)

Replayability: 9 (would've been a 10, but it wasn't all new to me; but it has many characters to save like the original and they give new abilities which weren't in the turbo duo original; you have to find SotN and the original which is good.)

Impression: 10

Presentation:

Graphics: 9. Artwise, pretty much exactly the same as the 1993 original with new tech polish. Not Super NES-pallette bright like the 1995 remake, so that means it doesn't look un-castlevania-like like the super nes remake; lots of aliasing due to the psp hardware doing 3D backgrounds.

Music and Sound FX: 6 Music was much less clear than the 1993 original. Sound fx weren't much out of the ordinary.

Polish: 10

NOTE: Even though the original never came out in the U.S., I felt it was fair to deduct a point for the 1st 2 categories, because this has been done before, and there wasn't as many new surprises as I'd have liked.

9.5 overall score. Don't hesitate to buy it if you haven't.

Thanks for your review! I've been debating whether or not I should pick this game up for the PSP. Been such a large influx of games I completely forgot about it until now.

Its funny you should bring this up but I just started playing SotN two days ago having never played Castlevania before and I can't believe I left it so long. This game is amazing! At first I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about but after an hour or so I was totally hooked. It even seems to have a half-decent story for a 2d platformer...

Just finished the first castle and working through the reverse castle. Got ~97% on the first and now about 115%.

Anyway, sorry to derail your thread... so when I finish SotN should I look in to getting this?
