You might try lmsensors in combination with fancontrol (it comes with lmsensors i believe), although I don't know if that would even work, maybe there is some way to force lmsensors into recognizing the fan controller on the card

It may help to compile nvclock from source instead of installing the default binaries. Following this howto, I got my 8800gt working great on Debian.

http://www.codealias.info/blog/nvidi...t_linux_driver
Updating to nvclock version 0.8beta3a did help in that it now recognizes my card, but it still can't adjust my fan speed

Code:
aria ~ # nvclock -f -F 40
Uknown Winbond vendor: ff
Error: Your card doesn't support fanspeed adjustments!
I did find a pretty equivalent solution though: I lined the cabinet my box sits in with carpet! Acoustically, it did a lot to quiet the fan. Air can still flow in and out of the computer case just fine.

Default 9755 driver on fx5700 on new kernel 2.6.24-15

Hey guys,
I cant find an answer to this anywhere!
I am running ubuntu hardy with the 2.6.24-15 kernel and xorg with x11/xcb
all the drivers from 10.xx and above install fine with the .run file no problems with installation but performance on an fx 5700 card is, put mildly, is crap!!
I tried to install the 9755 driver which is the best for my card in performance along with compiz fusion however it refuses to install.
I dont have any of the logs avaiable right nowk, however I am assuming this doesnt install because of the x11/xcb .
is this correct?
I s there a work around because these new drivers really suck on this card!!

Default Re: 169.07 Ubuntu 7.10 Fan at %100

I'm running (K)Ubuntu 8.04 amd64. I usually just use the drivers from the repos unless something is wrong. In this case, the fan is wrong. I didn't have this problem in (X)Ubuntu 7.10, so I found the driver version from that release and installed it and the fan is OK again. I could change the fan speed with nvclock, but it's obviously much better for it to change itself. It seems like it's not changing Performance Level out of maximum (is this the same as PowerMizer?).

Code:
[jpkotta@gauss][~][0]
$ sudo nvclock -i

Whats up nVidia? It's been almost 7 months now, you have released 2 new versions of the driver and the bug is still there. I know linux probably isn't a high priority and i understand that. But this is a joke. I used to recommend linux-interrested people to get a nvidia card, but these days i'm starting to wonder if thats really a good advice at all.

Anyway, i really hope someone has an idea on how to fix this, any help will be greatly appriciated.

EDIT: This issue is apparently fixed in 173.14.09 - Awesome. Still need to check if the fan speed is being changed when putting some load on the GPU.

Fan speed still stuck at 100% for me with the 173.14.12 drivers and Gigabyte 9800GT.

No support for fan speed adjustment under nvclock either.

Unhappy Re: 169.07 Ubuntu 7.10 Fan at %100

Driver 173.14.12 under Ubuntu 8.04...

And the fan of my 9600GT is still at 100% and it's really noisy!!!

There's no support for fan control with nvclock.

Could Nvidia do something ! Resolve the problem and some fan control ?

I was always supporting Nvidia thanks to the great linux driver but maybe should I take a look at AMD/ATI in the future if Nvidia doesn't care anymore ?

The fan speed issue for Gigabyte 9800GT is still not addressed in the 178 drivers.

I can't beleeeeeve it.
