Amazon sells 17 Wiis per second

My God, if you're selling them that fast and have a 20 million user base already, I don't see why 3rd party dev's aren't cashing in on this yet?

There are some good 3rd party titles trickling in now. Nights: Journey of Dreams is out and the new Rygar comes out soon exclusively for Wii.

i was the biggest Wii basher but the kids got one for christmas and it's a blast.everyone plays even the wife so it's really a fun console and mario Galaxy is awesome.

17 x 86,400 = 1,468,800 a day

That number is clearly wrong. Wii production rate is ~1,500,000 per month so even a large retailer like Amazon cannot sell that figure alone, in one day!

Maybe it's 17 per minute, a more realistic figure and still impressive. That would mean that Amazon alone can sell 170,000 Wiis/week or -in other words- about the same number of Wii sold in Japan every week last month.

Yeah, although actually a number of the good third party games for Wii have sold well. RE4, Rayman, and GH3 are all over a million sales. Heck, even Red Steel is, although that's probably because it was a launch game and there wasn't much else out at the time. Sure Nintendo dominates, and some good third party games are going to get overlooked (obligatory plug for Zach and Wiki: BUY THIS GAME), but there's still money to be made by third party devs too. The problem is that a lot of them are just trying to cash in with crap games. Shockingly they don't sell.

In any case, it's going to be fascinating to see what happens with Wii sales over the next couple of years. I'm not sure they've even really hit their target demographic yet because I know a lot of people who want a Wii but don't want to wait in line for it. I almost feel like the truly casual gamers that the Wii is supposed to appeal to won't have bought it yet because they won't want to wait in line before a store opens to get one.

And of course it prints money too!

The Wii has a really low attach rate for games. People buy the Wii but they don't buy games to go with it.

I would assume the 17 per second was a peak at some point in the day before they went out of stock. Kind of like that X-Box 360 giveaway last year from amazon where they blew through like 300 360's in like 5 seconds.

yeah....and the article says 17 wiis per second during the holiday season.....that can't be true. Maybe their sales peaked at 17/s for a split second....but there is no way that they stayed at that. Unless they've been stockpiling them for the whole year.....

Yeah their figures really make no sense.

At that rate they would have sold over 20 million wiis in 15 days.
