Hardest game ever?

So I beat Zelda II: Adventure of Link. It's old school, and it's tough as nails. Easily the hardest in the franchise, and in my opinion the hardest game I've ever played.

What's the hardest game you've ever played?

And it should be a game that's hard due to level design and hard enemies, not because the controls suck so you are always getting killed.

Metroid Prime 2. Between the respawning enemies, huge confusing map, light/dark realms, the multiple space-suit weapons you need to make it past certain portals, and the ridiculous boss fights... yeah... no contest...

Most frustrating game I've ever played. Definitely a love/hate relationship with that one.

Final Fantasy Tactics, some missions are nearly impossible to get the first time.

That game was challenging, but I made it all the way to the end. Great game. Lancer gives you a big advantage on that one if I remember right.
