The encoding for the first LOTR was apparently done in 2007. I am guessing we will see a theatrical boxset Q4 2008, extended in 2009 or 2010.

Should be a good set. The DVDs looked amazing. The disc swapping mid movie is a little annoying though. Still good time for a toilet break.
I dunno if I'd rebuy the set though. I mean the movies grew on me. In the cinema I hated the first, liked the second and never saw the third. But after splurging in the 3 Spec Ed boxes when i found them 75% off, I have say. They are great viewing. |

I have FOTR (non-Extended Edition), TTT (Extended Edition), and ROTK (non-Extended Edition).
All 1920x1080 MPEG2 DD5.1 HDTV captures, from like 2 years ago.

By the way, here is a HDTV-to-DVD comparison I made early this year.
The Lord of the Rings - The Return Of The King 14GB Standard Definition (2x 7GB DualLayer PAL DVD Extended Edition, 4h11min) vs. 27GB 1920x1080i 50Hz , , , , , , , ![]()
