My GF has been "playing" for half an hour , still no sign of the game yet.

Yeah, there is a long drawn out intro story part, but once it starts you're good to go.

Get ready for an extremely wordy game on the whole. It's how the entire series is. Most of its entertainment comes from the extremely awesome writing. Super Paper Mario is cool because it has awesome writing AND cool gameplay mechanics.

My GF is/was completely addicted to super paper mario for the longest time. It's a great game... once you get past the intro.
