Paramount Denies Report of HD DVD Support Drop

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=10288

Quote:
Paramount has denied reports claiming that it will be dropping support for HD DVD. Company spokeswoman Brenda Ciccone wrote in an email received by Bloomberg, “Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format.”

The movie studio’s statement is in response to an earlier report by the Financial Times that declared Paramount as “poised to drop its support of HD-DVD” in light of Warner’s decision to side with Blu-ray Disc exclusively.

According to the report, Paramount has a clause in its contract with the HD DVD Group allowing it to back out from the agreement should Warner exclusively support Blu-ray Disc. Keisuke Ohmori, a spokesman for Toshiba, commented that the FT report was speculation.

While Paramount has denied that its current plan is to drop HD DVD support, the studio did not comment on its supposed contract clause. A similar response was received by High-Def Digest: “We are still supporting HD DVD,” a Paramount spokesperson told the website.

While HD DVD owners should take some solace in Paramount’s words, the studio is saying little else to reaffirm its future plans for the high-definition format – instead repeating that its current strategy is still status quo.

Just you wait and see.

Same thing happened with Warner with their press release last year:

I don't blame Warner. You can't expect them to not be greedy. But then again if they really wanted to please their consumers they would support both formats so everyone can enjoy their movies.

Unlike a lot of people that seem to just be jumping ship and taking it from Sony. Personally I am going to stick with HD and I have still continued to invest in HD.

I will buy all dual format titles in HD-DVD and buy Blu-Ray for the ones that aren't available, simple as that. Not going to outright refuse Blu-Ray for the sake of spite, alot of Fox stuff such as Predator, Aliens etc will need to be added to my collection once they come about.

greed? well, they're losing money actually so they're required to make some business decision and make some money. it works that way. blu-ray movies outsold hd-dvd movies almost everytime so that's where they're interested in, they can't give away movies for free or they'll start to lay off workers or go out of business just because they want to please their consumers.

from the retarded petition

Quote:
The only thing Blu-Ray has going for it is 20GB of extra storage space, and a big name like Sony backing it up. HD-DVD on the other hand has PIP, web-enabled features, in movie menus, and much more. And if extra space is needed, use another disc, big deal.

Burn HD-DVD BURN!!

@evilchris: i hope you were one of the early adopters of the samsung bd-up5000
edit: nevermind, saw that someone else had commented about this player

apparently samsung doesn't want to use up-to-date codecs. better yet, we have another bd player that can't play the entire catalog. good thing we have all this studio support behind a format with very few necessary specs. i'm sure in typical samsung fashion, this won't be addressed until june or later.
