Lightbulb BiA Hell's Highway and Far Cry 2 Get amBX Support

This news got me interested in amBX!
Quote:
7th January 2008 - Redhill, UK – Philips today announced an alliance with Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, to amBX-enable Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway and Far Cry 2, both due for release in 2008. The agreement will also see an amBX patch being released for the original Far Cry. Further patches for existing Ubisoft games will also be released with the amBX-enabling of additional titles to be announced later.

I'm thinking that it will be very expensive to set up something like that. Nevertheless, I'd like to see where they go with this. Hopefully this isn't something like Ageia's PPU.

I think I read something about this a few years back. It's basically lights you put next to your PC and they change color based on the content of the screen and illuminate the room. Supposed to make it more "immersive".

I would agree. I'm still tempted to get a butt kicker to see what that's like, but I'm not sure if having flashing colors outside of the monitor would make any difference. I'd rather have surround gaming from 3 monitors than flashing lights. The fans might help though.

I have a Phillips TV that supports the Ambilight portion of amBX. It's actually pretty sweet.

The light up speakers though. They look like they'd just in annoying.

lol what a useless tech though.

It took me a while to remember what it is, it IS those colored backlights.

I forget if there's also little fans that can blow in your face or if that's a different tech.

I also remember hearing that some of the first TVs with ambx actually started fires because of the backlights.

I would just wait and try it before you judge it. I mean who would think rumble is such a good feature if they never used it. I did always want to mod a mouse with rumble/feedback support.

edit: ever tried the snow mobile arcade things that blows the cold air in your face. I thought that was pretty cool. Something like that would add to a game for sure.

I consider rumble useless to this day, and I've used it in everything from the Star Fox 64 rumble pack to my 360 and Wii (not my PS3 because I haven't bothered buying a Dual Shock 3, of course).

The ButtKicker is awesome in race and flight sims. And it's cool for movies too. I think it's cheap for what you get.
