Do you guys belong to some special organization or something that you have to say the same thing? Seriously there is like 5 of you saying the same thing over and over and acting as if there will never be a game on the PS3 that even slightly interest you. Was the 360 you guys first console or something?

The deciding factor that turned the studios to BD is the simple fact that it has significantly more DRM to protect their movies.

no, those of us that thoroughly enjoy the 360 seem to be few in numbers, as you sony fanbois seem to ooze around here, it just an opinion stating that poorly ported gaming just isn't for them, they'd only be interested in a movie player. personally i'd still wait to see what actually get the 2.0 profile, be interesting to see whether full codec support is involved (ie no ps3)

So you think only ports are coming to the PS3 for the next 5-10 years? This year alone has the system getting many exclusives but regardless is it really that hard to enjoy more than one system? Its ridiculous the way some are acting as if there will never be a game on the system they can enjoy. And the nerve some of you have to call people "fanbois".

2008 looks to be a good year for PS3 games, hopefully the likes of God of War 3, MGS4 etc

Not bad I suppose, but I still like the fact i'll be able to enjoy games such as Alan Wake without forking out hundreds on new PC hardware.

A 42"+ TV and HDM are top of my priority list this year, which is why I am rather annoyed by retarded limitations of the BD format.

Every single multi format release to date has been better on HD-DVD from what I have seen, and it would be great for someone to prove otherwise.

And why on earth would I buy a crappy 1.0 or 1.1 version of a movie when I could pick up a HD-DVD version with all the extra goodies already in?

Blu-Ray has won, great... now show me why it's the better format.

Can you provide me with some valid information as to why it's the better format?

I will have to wait for a 2.0 player aswell as 2.0 versions of movies just to get the functionality that HD-DVD offers.

How is common sense making me a fanboy here?

If Blu-Ray offered the same value and features as the HD-DVD counterparts I would be thrilled by it, and have no quarms on jumping in..... but where the hell do I go to do just that?

Are you saying I have to wait for 2.0 profile discs and for 2.0 players before it's worthwhile? .... crazy, so much for the new HDM era.
Only for the very earliest adopters, I can see why HD DVD would be the format of choice.

Video quality is currently the same for both though Blu-ray has all the requisites for becoming even better with not just a much larger capacity but also a much larger data transfer rate off the disc. As for sound quality, it is well known that a far larger fraction of Blu-rays feature uncompressed lossless audio tracks than HD DVD and personally I think that BD-J and BD Live has far more potential than HDi when it comes to the complexity and diversity of the interactive features and IMO this was confirmed on CES where we a glimpse of features more advanced than what I've seen on HD DVD and I'm sure the best is still to come. And you know not that many HD DVD's have advanced HD supplements, only about a a tenth, perhaps a bit more, of all HD DVD's released have a considerable amount of it. And Disney has utilized 1.0 and 1.1 to the fullest so far (and don't give me that "ZOMG they didn't have PiP, it's really not such a godlike feature that many HD DVD fans blow it up to be).

Blu-ray is still in the first stage of it's cycle so the far, far majority of players and movies are still to come and we will see a lot of 1.1 and 2.0 titles in the future. Blu-ray also have a special hard coating scratch protection which is a huge bonus especially for renting firms like Blockbuster. I have tried many times now to have rented a movie but having to skip through sequences because the film would get stuck there because of scratches. Blu-ray's much larger potential capacity also opens up for whole new features and uses that we haven't even thought of yet - capacity simply gives room for innovation. A medium's capacity always ends up being utilized to the fullest, I'm sure the companies will figure out something real cool especially once when BD hits 100gb or 200gb, and quite possibly it'll be some very special features that will try and keep people from just downloading the movies off the internet illegally.

Blu-ray clearly is more advanced technology than HD DVD on several points. And you know what the best thing is? The extra cost on the disc manufaction is not handed down to us! Blu-rays cost the same as HD DVD, in many cases it's even cheaper bacause many HD DVD's are dual sided SD/HD. Only the players a little bit more (when comparing apples and apples, 1080p with 1080p). And quite frankly you pay for what you get IMO. Blu-ray is in my opinion a much better long-term media because it's more ambitious while HD DVD was less ambitious, more short-sighted though cheaper. I believe that when you want to introduce a new format to the mass market, you should go with the format that represents the biggest step foward, especially when price is roughly the same, and will in all likelihood be pushed down to DVD levels at some point.

Is there a concise list which shows which Blu-Ray releases use MPEG2 somewhere?

Be good to know which ones to avoid.

I think I've seen a list once, don't remember where now.. but it doesn't matter anyway.

MPEG2 is not automatically equal crappy visuals:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/787/...ndrelease.html

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/562/crank.html

etc.

Just like a VC-1 or MPEG4 codec is not equal to good video quality by default:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/970/evildead2.html

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/252/...rsdracula.html

etc....

Just go for video quality (and movie quality ) not codecs when you buy. hidefdigest is a really good independent source for HDM news and reviews and there are others out there as well such as highdefdiscnews

Gaco you sound like a Sony CES rep spewing talking points.

Blu-ray is in no way "clearly superior technology".

BDJ is a disgusting mess. Sony agrees. Sony ( your shill job ) preferred HDi from the start.

We also keep hearing about how much more capable BD is....the proof is in the pudding. I know "just you wait!"

It's quite simple to see it will come good, but only when it needs to.

I just hope they re-issue alot of the older releases.

Gaco is in love with the format, the plastic disc part of it. Not the end result. The product. "Just you wait, it has so much potential!!"

The PS3 has such a hypnotic effect on its lusers.
