System freezing while playing a game in Wine

While playing Red Alert: A Path Beyond with Wine (http://www.apathbeyond.com/), the whole system is freezing periodically in-game for about 10 seconds (e.g. even mouse doesn't move). It makes the game completly unplayable. I'm getting this in X log:

If anyone wants to try, set the wine dll override d3d8=native before playing.
